Asphalt maintenance is a must! When asphalt is not properly maintained it allows for water, gasoline, oil and other elements to get into the pores. This leads to premature deterioration. Asphalt is a soft and porous material that requires sealcoating. Sealcoat is a coal tar emulsion that is applied to help protect and preserve your asphalt. There are a few other things to to keep in mind. Edges of driveways need support to keep from cracking. You can use anything from dirt or paving bricks to a concrete border. Look for weeds growing through your asphalt. They need to be killed or they will pop the pavement. Parking in one place for a long period of time can cause indents. When parking for extended periods, use wood under tires to disperse the weight. Sharp objects such as ladders, kickstands, lawn furniture or even high heels will put holes in your pavement. Most driveways are not made to withstand the weights of heavy equipment. Unless your driveway was constructed to handle heavy weights it is not recommended to have big trucks driving over them.
